I was watching a clip of Miriam Fried, a famous violinist, talk about teaching. Among the other clips on YouTube was this of Jascha Heifetz teaching a masterclass for the violin. His technique is fascinating. He sits at his desk, looks completely serious and delivers quiet deadpan comments to his nervous students. I enjoyed watching this clip. What does it take to get to the level of mastery of Heifetz, or Bauhaus artists like Johannes Itten, or old masters like Leonardo?
